Watchpoint: Gibraltar Map Tier List - Best Hero Rankings - July 2016 Edition

Watchpoint: Gibraltar is a map with extremely diverse terrain, and in my opinion one of the more fun of the payload maps. The beginning of the game starts off with snipers pointed at your face at spawn, but as a result of the large map size, the defense can be picked off from long range via Pharah rockets.

SEASON 1 - JUNE 30TH PATCH TIER LIST
Watchpoint:Gibraltar Escort Map

Introduction

Watchpoint: Gibraltar is a map with extremely diverse terrain, and in my opinion one of the more fun of the payload maps. The beginning of the game starts off with snipers pointed at your face at spawn, but as a result of the large map size, the defense can be picked off from long range via Pharah rockets.

General Tips

  1. When the game starts, expect snipers and a Bastion or Torbjorn to be mounted on the ledge directly in front of the payload spawn. If you can move into position behind a Reinhardt and behind the enemy defense, you can quickly burst them down.
  2. This is not one of those chokepoint maps that requires two tanks at the start, but later in the game swapping to a secondary tank is a good idea to keep the payload moving.
  3. The last part of the map is definitely the hardest, and spawns make it fairly difficult to round the corner without getting pinned down by turret fire.
  4. Tracer works surprisingly well on this map as a result of her ability to quickly cover distances and take out snipers from behind.
  5. The beginning of the game favors defense, but if you can get behind them on the ledge, they quickly drop off as a result of the relatively far spawn location.

Explanations

Reinhardt [God Tier] - Reinhardt is an absolute must at the starting gate, or be prepared to get shot down by sniper fire from five different angles at the start of the game.

Junkrat [Tier 1] - Although Junkrat is decent on this map simply because he can fire salvos behind ledges where snipers and Torbs are hiding, picking him at the start of the game is not advisable. However, as the game progresses into the tunnel phases, he becomes much more powerful.

Hanzo [Tier 2] - Picking Widowmaker or Hanzo at the start of the game is a very timid move. It means you are willing to hide in the spawn until you figure out where the enemy is located, and then slowly peek out into a sight disadvantage to try and out shoot them. The snipers are decent later in the game versus turret heroes, but still situational.

Explanations

Torbjorn [God Tier] - As a result of the high variety of map terrain here, Torb varies in strength as the game goes on. However, he is extremely good at the beginning of the game and at the end of the game as a result of good potential turret locations.

Widowmaker [Tier 1] - This map offers Widowmaker excellent high vantage points to snipe from, but just be aware that you will also be seeing plenty of Pharah rockets flying towards the usual locations as soon as the game starts.

Symmetra [Tier 2] - Symmetra works very well on this map as a result of the varied locations where she can hide her teleporter. Additionally, her sentries work exceedingly well on the ceiling walls of the tunnel where enemy players will have difficulty spotting as they move through with the payload.
