SEASON 1 - JUNE 30TH PATCH TIER LIST
Hanamura Assault Map

Introduction

To lead off our map-based tier list series is Hanamura. This map is a classical assault map that favors defending teams, and requires attacking heroes to successfully lock down two different objective zones.

The first point only has one side of entry (with a few openings, and is difficult to penetrate as a result of the excellent protection the walls provide. The second is somewhat easier to get into, but the orientation of the map still greatly favors defending teams.

General Tips

  1. Stay near the objective area as it is easier to defend than closer to the enemy spawn point.
  2. The first gate is extremely easy to defend with good turret setup, and defenses can be concentrated there.
  3. Symmetra is good to use for defense for the first part of the map as a result of the single concentrated gate area, but falls off in the second part of the map since the area has more openings.
  4. Two tanks for either side is recommended, but especially for attackers.

Explanations
Genji [God Tier] - Genji's ability to climb the wall and reflect turret shots makes him ideal on this map as an offensive based hero. His quick dashing abilities can also make quick work of the back line.

Reinhardt/Winston [God Tier] - As a result of the well guarded gate on this map, a combination of both Winston and Reinhardt are often necessary to make it past the enemy's fortified defenses.

Widowmaker [Tier 3] - On the first part of the map Widowmaker has extremely limited usefulness unless she can quickscope targets while behind a Reinhardt shield. The large number of corners make it otherwise difficult to get good tracking. One the second part of the map she can be used to take out turrets from long-range if necessary.

Defending Tier List

Explanations
Mei [Tier 1] - Mei is may not be the most impactful defensive hero on this map, but is probably the most popular just for her sheer annoyance. At higher divisions Mei is likely a bit better simply because her utility is unavoidable compared to Torb or Bastion.

Symmetra [Tier 1] - As mentioned above Symmetra is extremely good on the first half the map, especially since it is very difficult to get inside and take out her teleporter. Her capabilities on the second half of the map likely move her down a bit, closer to Tier 2.
