Fastest Overwatch Powerleveling Guide

Your level in Overwatch provides you loot boxes for awesome cosmetic items on your heroes, along with bragging rights with your friends. If you are into the competitive aspect of the game, when it is released the minimum level you need to be to play is 25 (which really is not much of a barrier at all). With this in mind, you may be wondering what the fastest method of leveling up is so that you can get your hands on as many goodies as possible in as short a time as possible. If this is the case, then check out this leveling guide below!

How Leveling Works

Experience (XP) is gained in the following way:
  • Players receive 4.01 XP each second you are active in a match.
  • Bonus XP is awarded based on your highest medal earned.
    • Gold Medal: 150 XP
    • Silver: 100 XP
    • Bronze: 50 XP
    • These medal XP rewards do not stack
  • 250 XP is awarded if you play to the very end of the match (win or lose).
  • 500 XP is awarded if you win the match.
  • 1500 XP for first win of the day (instead of 500 XP)
  • 20% Bonus XP for grouping with at least one friend.
  • 200 XP per consecutive match you play.
  • 400 XP for backfilling (joining a game in progress, but happens randomly).

Best Ways to Gain XP

1. Group With Friends
Gaining a 20% experience boost simply by having one or more friend(s) in your party is massive. This bonus does not stack with more friends in your group, but the more the merrier!

2. Win Games
Easier said than done right? When you're first starting out, it might be easy to say you can play whatever and still have your team win, but playing tanks and/or healers will certainly help your chances of winning greatly, especially if your team is comprised of six McCrees.

3. Play Lucio
Playing Lucio (as long as someone else is not already playing him) is definitely the easiest way to gain XP FAST. Not only is he an amazing hero to begin with, but by playing healer you almost automatically gain a gold medal in healing done. This grants you the XP bonus for the medal for free every game.

4. Play Consecutive Games
The 200 XP bonus for playing consecutive matches is extremely good, especially since you normally only gain 250 XP for finishing any given match to begin with. Be sure to party with friends to maximize the bonus!

5. Relax And Enjoy The Game
The 4.01 XP per second generation is very significant, and even if you lose a long fought game, you're getting a large chunk (and still quite a few bonuses) for just playing the game. As long as you keep playing and don't burn yourself out, you'll quickly gain levels. Save the rage for ranked queue!
